Mariposa connects the two cities of Nogales

The Mariposa crossing links Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Sonora. CBP identifies it as port 260402 and currently lists the port hours as 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is a different entry from downtown DeConcini, 260401, and Morley Gate, 260403. Make sure your planned approach and your selected report refer to the same crossing.

Use the figures here for entry into the United States. They should not be treated as measurements of the southbound drive into Sonora or as a combined wait for all Nogales crossings.

Passenger cars, pedestrians and freight

CBP’s Mariposa report includes standard passenger lanes, standard pedestrian lanes and commercial traffic. Its SENTRI and Ready Lane passenger fields currently show not applicable. Do not infer that a dedicated lane is offered here simply because the page uses the same five reading categories as other ports.

For freight, check the commercial reading and its operating status separately. CBP’s Mariposa information describes the commercial wait measurement as starting about half a mile from the port of entry. That measurement should not be substituted for a passenger-car or pedestrian queue.

Check the specific Nogales crossing

DeConcini and Morley have separate CBP entries in the main crossing list. If you consider another Nogales route, look up its own hours, lane types and current status first. This page does not establish that every mode of travel is interchangeable between those crossings.

The camera button links to the Nogales municipal border-camera portal. Select the relevant crossing within that external service before comparing the image with a wait reading. Camera availability is controlled by the provider; an image should not be read as a guaranteed total journey time.

Prepare land-entry documents

CBP lists a valid U.S. passport or passport card among accepted land-entry documents for U.S. citizens. For Mexican citizens, its guidance lists a passport with visa or a Border Crossing Card. Review the appropriate requirements for each person’s citizenship and status rather than relying on a general checklist alone.

A document check and a lane-availability check answer different questions. Even a traveler holding an eligible RFID card should verify which lanes are actually reported at Mariposa before planning around a dedicated lane.

Driving in Sonora requires insurance preparation

Arrange Mexican liability insurance before driving in Mexico. Federal-road rules require insurance covering harm to third parties in their persons and property. CONDUSEF recommends reading coverage and exclusions and verifying authorization of the insurer and agent.

Review the policy alongside the driving route before departure.
